Our brand new project and possibly our best one to date! 13 tracks of honky tonk traditional style bluegrass!!! Travers says this one is his most emotional to date. And Ron Thomasson of The Dry Branch Fire Squad says:" Travers Chandler and Avery County’s first CD established their use of a formula which I really like. They play straight-ahead “grits” bluegrass music, and they apply their treatment to a nice mix of old, new, and original songs that fit comfortably in their groove. Their second album gives us more of the same, and, to me, that’s really important. I don’t like it when folks mess with something that works.
This is music that’s made for the “bark-left-on” bluegrass lover. The faint-of-heart need not waste their time.
Travers’ playing and singing is indicative of what the whole band does,
and so it’s right to single him out (although any element of the recording would serve the same purpose). Refreshingly, Travers does not sound like anyone else. I have a feeling that that characteristic lends itself well to picking songs that suit his and the band’s skill set and tastes. The fit works powerfully. As with any modern bluegrass player it can be interesting to examine one’s instrumental work to imagine the influences that it represents. It’s as easy to do that with Travers as it is with any other mandolin player. But here’s how even in that regard Travers is unique. No one plays with the tone that he does. He makes the tone of his instrument fit the excellent selection of songs and all the while that very sound is unique. It does not remind you of any other player. That alone makes this CD a must-have. And the best part is that the sound which I have just described is not alone. It’s in excellent company."
